This position is working with Hospital Dentist and Oral surgeons in a busy hospital based dentistry practice with medically complex patients and procedures. Looking for individuals excited to learn and grow in their field and contribute to improving the dental health for medically complex patients. This position will also be assisting the OMFS/HD providers in the OR as well.


Under direct supervision of the provider and nursing leadership, performs a variety of administrative and clinical tasks to assist in the quality and compassionate care provided to patients. These duties include the greeting and escorting of patients to the exam room; taking medical histories, the measurement and recording of vital signs; preparing patients for the examination/procedure; and assisting the physician during the examination/procedure. Demonstrates clinical competence as a Dental Assistant. 



Major duties include, but are not limited to: 

  • Showing courtesy, respect, and positive attitude for patients, co-workers and the public. 
  • Working well in a team environment by cooperating with and helping co-workers. 
  • Providing assistance to customers with questions or concerns and providing service as necessary. 
  • Setting up surgery suite for planned procedures and cleans dental unit for timely turnover. 
  • Preparing medications and impression materials per manufacturer instructions. 
  • Assisting in both routine and specialized dental procedures. 
  • Maintaining specialty dental equipment per manufacturer instructions and dental service standards. 
  • Exposing both standard and specialty dental imaging safely and within desired time frames. 
  • Demonstrating proper infection control procedures. 
  • Following all Standard Operating Procedures for Reusable Medical Equipment and preparing instruments for transfer to SPS for sterilization. 
  • Assisting in filling gaps in the doctor's schedule due to late cancelations and failed appointments. 
  • Assisting patients in scheduling appointments. 
  • Following computer security regulations. 
  • Monitoring patient vital signs and condition during invasive treatment and during recovery period. 
  • Removing plaque and soft debris from removable prostheses. 
  • Sterilization of instruments. 
  • Performing other duties, as assigned.

This position will be based at Detroit Campus and will travel to a secondary location in the Metro area. Hours: 8am-5pm Monday-Friday


  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • One (1) year of Dental experience.
  • Surgical Dental Assistant One (1) year of experience.


  • A certificate of completion from an accredited dental assisting program, or six months of experience as a dental assistant in an oral surgery or dental clinic.
  • Radiology Certification.
  • Within 3 years of hire, must successfully complete the DAANCE (Dental Anesthesia Assistant National Certification Exam) to meet requirements to continue to assist with anesthesia cases.
  • BLS.
