Monitors and identifies normal and abnormal EKG rhythms. Notifies the appropriate personnel in case of emergency and maintains records and equipment associated with arrhythmia monitoring for all patients who are admitted, discharged or transferred.



  • Continuously observes and monitors EKG rhythms displayed at central monitoring station. Identifies normal and abnormal EKG rhythms from multiple monitors.
  • Notifies RN of life-threatening or abnormal rhythms per telemetry guidelines.
  • Verifies and/or problem solves alarms and ensures resolution either thorough staff notification or direct patient contact.
  • Maintains records associated with admissions, discharges or transfers for all patients on telemetry monitoring.
  • Documents and post six second strips every 8 hours in the daily log book with interval times and rhythm identification.


  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Successful completion, during the introductory period, of an arrhythmia course, to include both clinical training and written and verbal testing which will include knowledge and skill validation.
  • Successful completion, during the introductory period, of adult, infant and child CPR, to include written knowledge and skill validation.
  • Previous health care experience and/or education in cardiac monitoring preferred.
