Experience & Education Required:                                                                

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field, MBA and/or CPA preferred
  • At least ten years experience in a senior financial role with a health insurance or health benefits company. 
  • Demonstrated track record of success as a leader who is capable of setting direction within the context of overall corporate strategy and developing and managing a full range of human, financial and operational resources needed to achieve success.
  • Experience in working with external audiences including the Board of Directors, customers, Regulators and providers.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to anticipate accounting, financial reporting and operational issues, assess the implications, determine their impact, and develop and implement an appropriate action plan.Ability to lead actuarial and underwriting functions assess the implications of benefit & contract changes and communicate effectively with state regulators, CMS, brokers and employers.
  • Ability to lead network strategy, hospital, physician & ancillary contracting, network management, risk contract reporting and communicate effectively with providers.
  • Ability to communicate financial information in a way that has meaning and is understandable to other parts of the business.
  • A logical thinker who can communicate clearly and succinctly at all levels; one who combines financial expertise with operational savvy/business knowledge.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to listen, debate and evaluate issues with an open mind to different opinions and approaches to problem solving.
  • An effective negotiator with diplomacy skills, courage and the self-assurance to stand one’s ground.
  • Serves to mentor others within the organization, and as a means to develop an effective succession plan for the department.
  • An orientation to action through logical and quick analysis of issues, seeking to understand the implications of decisions for customers, the business and its operations.
  • An individual who achieves results by consistently and vigorously holding oneself and others accountable for meeting goals and performance levels which are critical for the long-term health of the business.
  • A high degree of personal integrity, compassion and the ability to gain the trust of fellow managers, the Board, the Chief Executive Officer, HFHS, staff, customers and the regulatory community.
