GENERAL SUMMARY:

 Henry Ford Health recently launched our Rising Above, Reaching Beyond $750 million fundraising campaign.  We are looking for an experienced major gift fundraiser who will enjoy both the excitement of playing a significant role in our comprehensive campaign and the new partnership with Michigan State University. 

 

This clinical fundraiser will lead efforts for our Orthopedics and Transplant programs.  These are priority areas within HFH that provide substantial opportunity for fundraising success and career growth.  A competitive compensation package will be commensurate with experience.

 

Under the direction of the Lead Development Officer, the Senior Development Officer is responsible for securing major gifts ($50,000 commitments and above) for Henry Ford Health. The Senior Development Officer works closely with Development Office Staff, Department/Program leadership, physician leadership, volunteers and donor advisors to identify prospects and develop solicitation strategies for major gift prospects. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Develops and implements fundraising plans for their assigned area(s) within Henry Ford Health. 
  • Fundraising plans are focused on moving donors towards making a major gift commitment of $50,000 and above through prospect identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. 
  • Activities are planned and accomplished through collaborative teamwork with the centralized Development Office contributing to the overall annual philanthropic goal of $100+ million.
  • Solicits donations primarily from individuals and family foundations but may at times also work with grant making foundations and corporations.
  • Works with leadership of assigned area(s) to identify, create, and execute strategic giving opportunities that are aligned with HFH priorities, including capital, endowment, research and programmatic needs.
  • Maintains and enhances professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations.
  • Performs other responsibilities or assignments as required.

 

Identification/Cultivation: 
Works closely with medical leadership to identify grateful patients as potential major gift donors who are interested in the work happening at Henry Ford Health. Works closely with leadership to leverage existing community relationships with individuals, volunteers, corporations, and other community partners. Works with development research manager to build strategic engagement.

 

Creates strategies for and manages relationships with current and prospective major gift donors; facilitates meetings between current and prospective donors with HFH physicians and leadership; plans strategy for prospect cultivation and donor recognition events. 

 

Product/Case Development: 
Working closely with medical leadership to identify and develop case statements representing opportunities that match Henry Ford Health priorities; works with Development Communications on content for written case statements that match priorities with donor interests.

 

External Relationships: 
Spends approximately 70% of time interacting with donors, volunteers, community leaders, hospital leaders and prospective donors.  Manages a portfolio of approximately 100-150 prospects.  

 

Education/Stewardship: 
Engages appropriate major gift donors and prospects in the programs at Henry Ford Health: Provides on-going information on relevant programs and overall strategies that may be a funding fit; provides continued information on use and impact of gifts; engages donors and prospects in HFH activities and ensures proper recognition of all major gifts; plans targeted outreach activities aimed at increasing the donor pool and cultivating/stewarding existing prospects; creates programs to educate donors on giving to health care and how philanthropy helps HFH achieve its goals; cultivates and educates prospects and donors through personal visits and written and oral communications.

 

Proposal Writing/Strategy: 
The Senior Development Officer develops a proposal strategy for major gift solicitations from individuals, corporations and foundations which clearly articulates the need for a contribution and links this need and gift impact to the prospective donors' giving interests.  

 

Assists in prioritizing proposals and may research, write and edit correspondence to current and prospective donors including introduction letters, gift acknowledgments and reports on the use of grant funds.

 

Effect and Results:  

The effect of this position will be to significantly enhance and contribute to the advancement of Henry Ford Health’s priorities.  The Senior Development Officer will be responsible for representing their clinical program areas and will directly steward the associated fundraising priorities to increase philanthropic support.  The senior development officer will collaborate with HFH partners, physicians, chairs, other Development Office team members, and HFH volunteers to secure major gifts,

 

 

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

·   Minimum of Bachelor's degree from four-year College.

·   Experience in raising five (5) and six (6) figure gifts.

  • Minimum five years of experience in major gift/planned gift fundraising or related sales experience, seven years is preferred.
