GENERAL SUMMARY: The pharmacist assumes responsibility for the day-to-day comprehensive, patient-oriented pharmacy services provided on his/her shift in each area of the department. The pharmacist works under the general direction of the area's administrative or clinical coordinator, and provides direction and supervision for supportive staff assigned to his/her shift. The pharmacist must be able to exercise sound management and clinical judgment in making appropriate decisions in the absence of coordinators or more senior staff. He/she assists coordinators in identifying problems which exist in his/her assigned area of practice and cooperates in the resolution of these problems. The pharmacist participates in training pharmacy interns and externs in each of the pharmacy service areas. 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Must hold a degree from an accredited college of pharmacy; residency in hospital pharmacy strongly preferred. Should demonstrate acumen in verbal and written communication skills which enable him/her to contribute effectively in the dissemination of drug information to all levels of health care personnel in the institution. Must possess a thorough understanding of the pathophysiology and pharmacotherapy of disease states and have the application skills needed to permit proper integration of these in monitoring drug therapy. Must have basic abilities for participating in the various teaching programs including instruction and supervision of undergraduate pharmacy students, interns, and pharmacy technician trainees. Should have the skills necessary for providing informal and formal instruction of students and other health care providers on drug therapy and inpatient operational activities. Must demonstrate the ability to work with others in developing improved services for patients. 

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Michigan. If eligible, licensure must be obtained within 30 days of hire; failure to obtain licensure will result in termination of the Pharmacist position.
