Nurse Assistant - 7th Floor Surgical - Part-Time - Days
Department: 7th Floor – Post-Surgical
Location: Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, 2333 Biddle Ave, Wyandotte, MI 48192
Schedule: Part-Time (24 Hours/Week), Every other weekend and holiday rotation
Shift: Days 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (2x12 Hour Shifts)

Working under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), you will assist with essential patient care tasks and actively contribute to a positive patient experience.
About Our Unit:
Join our fast-paced 23-bed surgical unit, caring for post-operative patients who do not require telemetry. Our team specializes in hip and knee replacements, spine and orthopedic procedures, bariatrics, hysterectomies, general surgeries, and trauma cases. As a Center of Excellence for Orthopedics and Bariatrics, we offer a strong rapid recovery program—many joint replacement patients return home the day after surgery. What You’ll Do:
Your day-to-day impact includes:
- Performing routine tasks such as measuring and recording vital signs, collecting and labeling specimens including blood draws, and performing venipuncture and chemsticks.
- Assisting with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges as directed by the RN.
- Providing compassionate, hands-on personal care, including bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting, mobility, and comfort.
- Communicating effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to support seamless care delivery.
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized patient environment.
Education/Experience Required:
To qualify, you’ll need a high school diploma or equivalent and one of the following:
- Completion of a Nurse Assistant program (titles may vary: Patient Care Technician (PCT), Patient Assistant Technician (PAT)).
- Enrollment in a nursing program with completed Fundamentals of Nursing.
- Foreign trained and licensed RN who has relocated to the United States and does not hold a Michigan RN license
- Medical Assistant program (with or without experience).
- At least one (1) year of experience in a Nurse Assistant, Patient Care Tech, or Patient Assistant Tech, or similar job role.
- Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) preferred
Certifications/Licensures Required:
- Complete BLS Heart Saver Certification during orientation.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
- Physical ability to lift and move patients, supplies, and equipment.
- Prolonged standing, walking, and lifting of patients, supplies, and equipment.
- Works in patient care area environments, which may include exposure to communicable diseases, unpleasant odors, acute patient conditions, potential exposure to infection, and hazardous gases.
