ER Technical Assistant - Brownstown Emergency Care - Contingent

As an Emergency Room Technical Assistant, you’ll work side-by-side with nurses and providers to deliver timely, compassionate care during critical moments. Under direct supervision, you'll assist with procedures, perform vital tasks, and help ensure smooth operations in one of the hospital’s most dynamic environments.

About Our Unit:
Henry Ford Health Center – Brownstown provides the Downriver and Brownstown Township communities, as well as southern Wayne and northern Monroe counties, a wide array of patient-focused services to meet their healthcare needs. Our 20-bed facility offers an easy-access emergency room, full-service laboratory, quick-fill pharmacy, radiology services, diagnostic sleep center, outpatient surgery, and care from top physicians and specialists.
What You’ll Do:
Your day-to-day impact includes:
- Assist with patient assessments, exams, and treatments
- Perform clinical tasks such as:
o Drawing blood & collecting specimens
o Performing EKGs
o Applying splints or immobilizers
o Taking vital signs (adult and pediatric)
o Inserting NG tubes, urethral catheters
o Starting and discontinuing IVs (as applicable)
- Prepare and assist with procedures including suturing, casting, pelvic exams, lumbar punctures, and more
- Recognize abnormal vitals or dysrhythmias and alert the RN/Provider immediately
- Provide patient and family support with professionalism and empathy
- Maintain equipment and supplies; clean and prepare rooms between patients
- Ensure compliance with safety, infection control, and hospital standards
Education/Experience Required:
· High School Diploma or GED required
· BCLS Certification required
· Previous experience in an Emergency Department or acute care setting is a strong plus
· One of the following is required at time of hire
· Basic EMT certification
· Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant, nursing, or MD program
· One year of Emergency Room Technical experience
· EMT license preferred
· Ability to successfully complete a 180-day orientation program
Certifications/Licensures Required:
Must meet one of the following criteria:
- Basic EMT (B-EMT) certification
- Graduate of a formal Medical Assistant program
- Completion of a formal nursing education program
- Completion of a formal medical doctor education program
OR
- One (1) year of applicable Emergency Room Technical experience (Must complete one of the above certifications/programs within 12 months of hire)
Additional Requirements:
- EMT license preferred
- Successful completion of a 180-day orientation period is required
