If so, consider joining forces with Health Alliance Plan (HAP) as the Director of Enterprise Data Management.  HAP (part of Henry Ford Health) is a Michigan-based, nonprofit health plan that provides health coverage to individuals, companies and organizations. We partner with doctors, employers and community groups to enhance the overall health and well-being of the lives we touch.

Under the general direction of the VP-Corporate Applications, the Director of Enterprise Data Management provides leadership in the strategic planning, implementation, and direction of the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) Program, while also assisting and supporting the clinical and business community with technical/analytics inquiries and client support concerns. The Director is responsible for creating the team structure, and managing a team of data warehousing professionals who architect, design, develop, test, and support the EDW Program. The responsibilities include staffing, planning, design, implementation, and project management; daily operational management; a focus on service excellence and employee engagement; staff skills development, and fiscal responsibility. The Director will work closely with VP-Performance Analytics and Improvement to ensure consistency with organizational philosophy and alignment of goals.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborates with the VP Performance Analytics, CIO, and other IT leaders as well as other C level/Senior Leadership such as CFO, CSO, and CMO to understand requirements for key strategic initiatives and define and develop the EDW Program.
  • Works with operational users and vendor partners to provide technology solutions and recommendations for EDW strategies.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills in being able to influence decisions relating to long term EDW/Performance Analytics strategy and architecture.
  • Works in a consultative role with the Enterprise Project Management Office on system wide and large strategic initiatives.
  • Develops and manages annual capital and operational budgets based on organizational priorities; works with program sponsors to obtain approval.
  • Directs and leads the EDW team to deliver on the EDW and Analytics objectives and strategy.
  • Provides a strong technology leadership to the team and to Leadership.
  • Encourages best practices and standards to develop and support strong governance around scope, schedules, financials, change management, deliverable quality, and release management.
  • Partners with Governance teams around data security, data access and data privacy.
  • Guides the development and maintenance of data standards, policies, and practices for information management across the enterprise.
  • Provides direct oversight on vendors and manages relationship, contracts, SOWs, invoices, and deliverables.
  • Liaison with internal teams, vendors, and service providers to identify and implement best technologies and tools for the Enterprise Data Warehouse, Big Data/Predictive Analytics and Performance Analytics.
  • Directs a diverse team that may include program managers, functional area managers, data architects, data analyst, and data warehousing programmers, QA Analyst/testers, Release coordinator, database administrators, support engineers, and vendor partners.
  • Administers personnel-related matters, including interviewing and hiring, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, coaching/mentoring, and staff/leader development.
  • Represents HAP in external settings to build and sustain a strong brand in leading-edge EDW and analytics capabilities and to generate interest and new potential partnerships/collaborations.
  • Provide regular analysis of trends in key business metrics and facilitate senior execute briefings to present insights that help drive performance improvement decisions.
  • Using the Performance Analytics/ research agenda, identify tools, technologies, and services that can further enhance the analytics capabilities offered to the Health System stakeholders. Collaboratively conduct proof-of-concept projects of related technologies to validate additional value creation, and subsequently plan/procure delivery of those services.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree. Advanced degree in business or healthcare preferred.
  • Twelve (12) years leadership experience in managing EDW or similar complex Business Intelligence/analytics or software environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role on a major project or change management effort.
  • Must be able to handle difficult and sensitive situations using sound, independent judgment within general policy and legal guidelines.
  • Must be able to understand the overall healthcare insurance business including Clinical/Inpatient Quality, Revenue Cycle, Population Health Management, Finance and Operations to support system wide performance improvement initiatives and handle related performance analytics projects.
  • Proven track record in interacting with diverse business customers including senior system leaders and ability to understand their unique needs pertaining to data and analytics.
  • Proven track record in managing diverse teams, including highly skilled technical resources as well as developing team members of varying skill levels.
  • Ability to assign, guide, and monitor the work of others regardless of the reporting relationship (direct, project, indirect).
  • Excellent Strategic Thinker: possess ability to provide thoughtful leadership to develop creative solutions for complex business and technical problems.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills. Able to develop and present complex material effectively to a variety of audiences – technical and non-technical, staff, management, and leadership.
  • Ability to develop and mentor managers and build dynamic teams.
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities competently and to lead others’ development.
  • Broad and in-depth working knowledge of evolving EDW technologies, Big Data/Predictive Analytics and how they could positively impact a Health Plan.
