GENERAL SUMMARY: 

The position will help deliver cooking and nutrition education by augmenting nutrition education work with hands-on culinary skills training, including knife skills, food safety, food preparation, recipe modification for dietary needs and family preferences, and exposure to new cooking methods and techniques for program participants.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Teaching culinary skills including knife skills, food safety, and food preparation; modifying recipes to meet dietary needs and family preferences; conducting hands-on cooking demonstrations and teaching new cooking methods and techniques to participants.
  • Programs are conducted at community sites including faith-based organizations, recreation centers, community centers, senior living apartments, farmers markets, and farm stands throughout Detroit and Wayne County.
  • Key stakeholders: Community partners and program participants at various community sites.
  • Opportunity to teach and demonstrate culinary skills to diverse community groups
  • Hands-on work with community members in various settings
  • Need to coordinate with multiple community sites with varying program times

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma
  • Computer software, i.e., Microsoft Office- Word, Excel, Power Point, Access skills are also required.
  • Chef or culinary experience preferred
  • Group facilitation, especially at community sites
  • Must have reliable transportation to visit community sites, mileage reimbursment 
  • Flexible scheduling requirements including early evenings and weekends depending on community partner needs


 

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

  • ServSafe Certified
  • Must meet or exceed core customer service responsibilities, standards and behaviors as outlined in the Henry Ford Health Customer Service Policy
