Actuarial Analyst I - Health Alliance Plan

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Entry level Actuarial Analyst I position that supports the development of actuarial studies and analyses and works to develop efficient processes and applies actuarial techniques and statistical analysis to several functions which includes some or all of the following: insurance premium and pricing development, risk scoring, claim trend analysis, experience studies, medical economics, profitability analysis, wellness studies, predictive modeling, or claim reserving.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports modeling development of revenue and claim estimates including but not limited to risk scores & adjustments, trend, claim reserves, premium deficiency reserves, drug rebates and reinsurance recoveries and reserves.
- Supports the development of studies, analyses, and presentation materials needed to appropriately inform decision makers. Make appropriate recommendations to Actuarial management.
- Implement analytic techniques and predictive models to support medical cost reduction and health cost initiatives.
- Flexibility and proven ability to diagnose and resolve issues.
- Strong ability to recognize and automate repetitive tasks.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize, multitask, and work in fast paced environment.
- Manage own time and resources across many projects, focusing on quality, time, scope, usefulness, and appropriateness of work. Carry out recurring projects with minimal assistance and oversight. Keep manager informed.
- Ability to respond to all communications effectively and in a timely manner.
- Continued professional growth in Actuarial field as evidenced by participation in the Actuarial Study Program.
- Other Duties as Assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or closely related field.
- Minimum of one (1) year in an actuarial internship or at least one (1) year of educational experience (which can be satisfied through VEE or similar courses) required.
- At least one (1) year of experience with Microsoft Office Suite required.
- One (1) year of programming experience preferred.
- Proficiency in Excel.
- Experience with data visualization preferred.
- Possesses and applies knowledge of actuarial principles, concepts, practices and processes within multiple fields or disciplines.
- Ability to complete complex assignments and ability to visualize, articulate, and solve complex problems.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
- Successful completion of at least one (1) Actuarial Exam.
- Two (2) Actuarial Exams preferred.
